Scrap Material Tea Towel Ladder

Using scrap materials is a great way to DIY on a budget. I had a piece of railing leftover from my repurposed changing station that I was able to use for this project.

For this project I used my scrap material (changing station railing), wood dowels, wood glue and a saw. I also used acrylic craft paint and a foam brush.

The first thing I did was remove the old dowels. This was easy as they were not glued in. I simply twisted and pulled.

After the dowels were removed I used a measuring tape and pencil to mark the halfway point on my railing. I then used a handsaw to cut it in half. This left me with two pieces, one for each side of the tea towel ladder.

The wood dowels I purchased from Dollar General were already the perfect length and did not require any trimming.

I chose the placement of my dowels and used wood glue to secure them in place.

Now that my tea towel ladder was built, I left it to dry for approximately 45 minutes before moving on to the next step.

When the glue was dry I mixed together two different shades of white acrylic craft paint and used a foam brush to paint the tea towel ladder. It took several coats to get good coverage. Once I was done painting the tea towel ladder I allowed it to fully dry.

This was such a fun and simple project. I love how it turned out! Tea towel ladders are perfect to display your favorite towels in either the kitchen or the bathroom. I hope this inspires you to turn your scrap materials into something beautiful and functional!

Nice idea. I think, given the high traffic and activity of a kitchen or bath I’d consider some base to keep from falling over
