When I finished my project entitled “Beautiful Slipcover/Cushion For My Old Cedar Chest”, I found we had a problem. The cushion would slide every time we sat on it. I had to figure out a way to remedy this. Hubby and I put on our thinking caps for a solution. We didn’t want to do further damage to the chest other than the sun damage it already had. I had saved some hard plastic “corners” that were in the packing carton of something we had purchased. Honestly, I don’t remember what it was. 🤔😳 I just figured they would come in handy one day for something. There were 6 of them so I saved them all. I just figured these corners should be durable enough to do the job. Here is what the corners look like.
Securing Slipcovered Cushion With NO Damage To My Furniture
I tried hot gluing the plastic corners on the corners of the cedar chest lid. Well, they popped right off the lid within minutes when I put the foam into the four corners. I then pulled the hot glue residue that was on the cedar chest and said a few choice words under my breath🤬🤬. Many months passed and hubby and I kept thinking that we were going to have to bore holes in the lid and screw the plastic corners to the lid. Then on November 10, 2020, out of the blue, I figured out what to do. I had bought a package of Velcro at the Dollar Tree. Well, I hot glued strips of fastened Velcro onto each of the four corners. I then put hot glue on the under side of the fastened Velcro too and placed all four of then down on the lid. I weighted them down and made sure they were set completely.
I literally held my breath when I put the foam into the corners. I was shocked that it stayed in place. After months of mulling over ideas, the cushion was SECURE! The combination of the hot glue on the plastic and on the underside of the Velcro made the difference. Who knew?
At long last I could put the slipcover over the cushion and on the outside of the plastic corners. I am BEYOND happy and it is no longer sliding around on the cedar chest. It has not budged ANY since it was hot glued. 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Hope this post will help someone else with a similar problem. Happy Hometalking.
