Simple DIY Yarn Tassel

Take a small book and thin yarn and set a piece of the yarn end inside the cover of the book to hold the yarn in place.

Wrap the string around the book 50 times and snip the yarn.

Now cut about an 8 inch piece of yarn and thread this piece under the yarn, against the pages.

Squeeze the yarn that has been wound around the book and then tie the piece of yarn. I find that the knot holds best if you loop the string through twice before pulling it tight.

Lift up and pull down to tighten the knot several times to ensure the yarn is tied tightly together.

Now loop one more time and make a knot.

Slide the yarn off the book now.

Take the 24 inch piece of yarn and make a loop on one end.

Sit the loop on the tassel towards the top with the end of the loop near the top of the tassel, so the actual loop is on the bottom and the ends are on the top of the tassel.

Now start wrapping the longest end about a quarter of an inch down from the top of the tassel. Wrap about eight times and do not let the yarn overlap each other. But make sure it’s sitting right next to the other piece you just wrapped.

Last take the end of the yarn that you have been wrapping and run it through the loop that is at the bottom that you left hanging out. Then the shorter piece of yarn that is sticking out the top of where you just wrapped—pull that piece in the loop and it will start closing up at the bottom and it will hide the end of the yard. Then snap the excess yarn at the top.

Now it's time to trim up the tassel.

Lay the tassel in your hand, where the top of your tassel is just off the palm of your hand and close your fist.

Pull the bottom of the tassel to make sure all of the yarn is nice and smooth.

Cut the end of the tassel off with the scissors using your palm as a guide to keep yarn even.
