Simple, Rustic Hygge Candle Holders

The Danish word hygge (pronounced who-guh) means to live in the moment and really appreciate, deep down inside it’s specialness. It’s that feeling of perfect contentment and that all is "right" with the world. It doesn’t matter if it’s watching your kids laugh from their bellies, cuddling with your favorite fur baby or simply lighting a candle. To celebrate that feeling of being fully aware of, and grateful for those heart warming things in life we made some candle holders using a few simple things we had at home.

The hygge candle holders were pretty easy to make. We used branches we cut down last Spring, and trimmed them to the height we wanted our holders to be. We used dowels to attach the branches to some pallet bits to create a stable base for the candle holders.

We took some metal plates and glued and screwed them onto the top of the branches. The metal plates were sprayed a lovely copper color first so they would match the branches.

We use the hygge candle holders all the time and I think they look lovely on our mantle with all our other special decor bits. What do you think?

Those gorgeous bibles in the photo have been in our family since 1766. Each new generation is responsible for writing down their family members names and birth dates and passing them on to the oldest child for safe keeping. That's hygge right there. Knowing where you come from and documenting the legacy you'll leave behind.

Have you had any hygge moments? I'd love to hear about them, if you're willing to share.

We also put the full tutorial on how we made the candle holders on our blog, pop around if you get a chance and come say hi.
