I wanted to make some thing special for our granddaughter who is having her 10th birthday. This photo conveys the exact sentiment of how special she is and it needed the perfect frame.
This is the sentiment I wanted to send her.
I started with a frame with pretty detail and cleaned it well with denatured alcohol and paper towels. (This picture was snapped after I started putting on the mod podge - I got ahead of myself....)
Then I brushed on some mod podge in satin. I find this helps the unicorn spit adhere better to my frames.
Next I mixed up my pink. I can’t say precisely how I mixed this. I started with Pixie punk pink and white ning and added a wee bit of Phoenix fire. You can see in the picture the pink has a peach tone in there as well. (Ignore my finger there...lol)
I also threw in some white glitter I found at Joann fabric. I loved the little sample size, and there no such thing as too much sparkle right?
Once I had it all mixed up I used a chip brush and painted the entire frame (except the back).
  • Then I misted a paper towel and wiped the pink off the raised detail on the frame. I wanted the put some sparkle teal/turquoise on those areas to bring out the blue in the photo.
Back to more mixing. I used Patina peacock sparkle spit and white ning and of course more white sparkle.
Using a smaller brush I painted the detail edges and the inside edges of the frame with the teal mix.
I watered down the blue a little with a spritz of water because I wanted the pink to peek thru the blue. Last step will be a sealer coat with kristall gel. Hardest part is waiting for it to dry thoroughly. I can‘t wait to see the glossy shine and sparkle the kristall gel will add.
I had to slip the print under the frame while it was drying to admire the mix of colors....
After the spit was dry I brushed on a layer of kristall gel. This seals the unicorn spit with a glossy 3 dimensional sparkling finish. I only had to use one coat. It looks amazing! Can’t wait to see how my granddaughter likes it.
Here is a little video of the finished frame - It really captures the sparkle!

Lovely idea! I've done pictures for my granddaughter with other sayings, but, I really like this one, too!
