Spray painting fabrics is so popular now so why not spray paint your old ugly lamp shades too?

Old discolored and broken lamp shade

Here is my crappy and broken lamp shade. I'm going to fix it with some hot glue, then paint it beautiful again.

Repairing a broken lamp shade

Ok, this is basic stuff. Get a hot glue gun and glue your shade back together (assuming its broken). If it's not, just continue on down this page.

Getting ready to spray paint a fabric lamp shade. Lets do this!!

Next step: Grab your best buddy, some paint, a nice flat surface and get ready to start spraying.

Spray Paint Fabric Lamp Shades

I went with a flat black paint. I seem to be using a lot of black lately.

Keep enough distance from the material so it doesn’t cause drips. Multiple thin coats will look better than a few thick ones.

Heres the progress after one thin coat.

Should I paint the inside of my lamp shade?

Mine was white inside, and the light shined through after painting the outside.

Only the outside of this shade was spray painted, you can see the light still penetrating the shade through the black paint.

I chose to paint the inside as well. Now the light doesn't penetrate the shade anymore, but its not as bright.
