Winter decor using upcycled fishermen sweaters.

Finished product. Always use odd numbers when displaying items. ;)

Nice texture contrast...soft flannel ball decorations against the wool sweaters :) I cut the shirting materials about 1 1/2 ins wide to ease with wrapping. One styrofoam ball could be wrapped with about 18 ins of plaid cotton and about the same for the wool plaid.

midway. The stick was for holding down glue

I say this is a Medium skill project but realistically it’s just basic cutting and wrapping and gluing in place. I used a high-temp glue stick so I used a stick help push down the glued areas to help seal. This helped from getting my fingers burned.

Walmart $3.98 ea

I used styrofoam. One funny note with the glue I could tell it was very hot because I could hear it sizzling the styrofoam! But it didn’t distort the shape. i also rolled the ball around on the desk surface to ensure it was secured

Example of sweater strip I used. I started about an inch im from one end of the strip and wrapped it in one direction, slightly pulling on the knit as I go. I ended up cutting about a third of this strip off. You don’t need to worry about raw edges with this craft. The sweater texture hides a lot of glue spots so you can just roll it around and spot glue any loose bits.

one tip: don’t stretch the sweater too much across the styrofoam. You don’t want the knot to be taut against the white styrofoam it will show through. You can stretch the sweater knit but not too much

Suggested materials:
  • 6 in styrofoam floral balls old sweaters and flannel shirts glue gun   (Walmart and ARC Thrift store)
  • Styrofoam wool flannels and sweaters
