Take a Tour of My {Doll}House
Believe it or not, but my grandpa made this for me by hand to give to me as a birthday gift when I turned 5 years old – quite a while ago! It’s been in storage at my parents’ house until just last year when I gave it to my daughter for her 5th birthday.
My grandpa had a book with plans (Willoway Farms Victorian-style Farmhouse) and used those plans to build this for me. It stands almost 3′ tall and has wood siding, individual wood shingles, a “brick” chimney, front porch, shutters and window boxes. He painted it light green with dark green shutters to match his own house.
When I was little, I never played with the dollhouse. Instead, I could spend hours cleaning it and rearranging the furniture. Hmmm…..I guess even at a young age I loved decorating!
My grandparents included so many details, from window boxes, to stained glass windows, "hardwood" floors, wallpaper and custom made curtains.
The furniture is original to when I had the dollhouse and yes, it definitely has a '70s vibe! Unfortunately, not all of the furniture has been able to withstand my daughter's enthusiastic playing, but I don’t mind in the least. I love seeing her enjoy the dollhouse that was so carefully and lovingly crafted by her great-grandpa.

I love this. Keep it forever, and one day your daughter will pass it down. I have a corn cob doll house my Father made for me for my birthday. I had read the book Miss Hickory in school. He was laid off from work and had no money to get me a gift, so he made me a log cabin dollhouse just like in the book made from corn cobs, complete with Miss Hickory with her Acorn body and carved furniture. Best gift I ever have received. I still have it. Have your daughter read Miss Hickory. Your Grandparents sound like amazing people.
