Textured Sunflowers

These turned out so cute! I seen some ideas for making these on line and then I kind of went my own way. I wanted some texture on the sunflower face. It took me a while to figure out what I would use. I thought sesame seeds would be great but I did not want to have to paint them. So I came up with the idea of poppy seeds. They really added lots of texture to the sunflowers. I used Mod Podge to glue them on and it is a few days later and none have fallen off. I decided It was safe to post about them then. I bought the felt squares from Hobby Lobby and I already had the wood slices that we had cut last year for another project. I used a dowel rod that I cut in half to use for the two flowers. I used raffia and some faux leaves for them too that I already had on hand.

My hubby was so surprised he said they look almost real.

I used wood slices I already had. A large one and a smaller one.

I used some gold and some burnt gold felt.

I used brown acrylic paint to paint the flower faces.

I put Mod Podge on the faces when they were dry.

Then I sprinkled on the poppy seeds and a little bit of cinnamon.

My dowel rod stained roughly and cut in half.

I just free cut my petals. Two differnet sizes.

I pinched the petals and hot glued them all around both flowers.

I hot glued the dowels on the back. But you could drill holes in the sides and insert the dowels that way.

Look at the textured centers!

These are going to be fun to style for my Fall decorating.

Since my 12' sunflowers never materialized, I might try this, although I don't have wood slices or poppy seeds, I might try with tiny beads and the felt. All my flowers in my planters in front are silk flowers from Dollar Tree, so these would fit right in!! My brown/black thumbs can't grow anything.😸🐈️😊

  • That is a perfect idea, beads would be perfect!
