The Essential Tools for DIY

Over the past 4 years of refinishing furniture and DIYing I've tried and worked with many tools. It's definitely true that the right tools make the job easier and help you produce a high quality final product. Click here to see all of my essential tools and supplies for DIY projects.
I'm sharing my top 4 most used tools here but I share many more on my blog and talk about how I use each one with links to all of the products.
First is high quality paint. For a water-based paint I love to use General Finishes milk paint (it's an acrylic paint) that creates a high quality, durable finish when also paired with their topcoat. This paint is perfect for painting furniture and you can mix colors to create your own custom color, too.
Second is a drill/impact driver. I own a ryobi with 2 LI batteries so I'm never without a charge. It's great for my basic DIY-ing needs.
This one is important - a respirator. A simple mask will not suffice. The contaminants and dust you breath in when doing projects is dangerous. I use a respirator when painting, sanding, around chemicals, etc. Remember to change the filters and cartridges regularly according to the directions.
Fourth is something that seems simple but I always reach for it, and it's a spray bottle. I keep one full of water and use it to wipe down pieces of furniture when sanding, to clean my hands, thin my paint... so many things. I grab the $0.99 ones at Home Depot for ease.
