Tree Trunk Slice Decor Star

I took a tree trunk slice before a tree was hauled away, used a rainbow of color, and made a surprise piece of decor I can use in many situations

This is my slice of a log, with an uneven top and bottom and the raw bark all around. I have let it dry out since that February. I sprayed for insects a week ago, and yesterday. If any little spiders remain, they can claim this as home. I sanded the top with 150 sandpaper, not to level the top, but to bring out the rings.

I had some rinse water from dipping my brush through Unicorn SPiT Blue Thunder, and leaving the paintbrush in water in a cup. The water was very blue, of course, and I painted the log with many of the coats to give moisture to the wood.

Next step: Squeeze Unicorn Paint in nine colors around the log and near the edge. The log would drink in these colors yet show them off, too. One of my favorite steps!

Then I used a small bottle of water to spray the paint to get some movement started. Some of the paint started dripping down the crevices on the log, just as I wanted.

I used a 2” flat paintbrush to swirl the paint circles from the center out. When those color lines were less intense, I added more white and swirled that in. The white blended with each color enough to lighten and add highlights. I think the wood liked all the attention.

The mail came in. With it, Unicorn SPiT’s new Sparkling Golden Gosling! I almost forgot to take out the protective cap.

I could barely wait to squeeze on the Golden Gosling! I used the edge of my paintbrush to swirl the gold into the other colors. When all the paint dried and I added a three coats of liquid polyurethane, all the colors came back into view and the gold popped as if it had grown from the log.
