how to up-cycle a small decorative plant with spray paint and jute string.

the rustic look is very in at the moment so I decided instead of spending money on something that I would make it for myself. I quick trip to the pound shop and I had everything that I needed.

I bought a bargain little plant from the pound shop. I bought it with the plan of upcycling it as I didn’t like the colour or the wording. But I did love the shape and the style of plant. It only cost £1 so I couldn’t resist.

To start I took the plant off of the top so it wouldn’t get sprayed with the paint.

Then I sprayed it with chalk style spray paint as I wanted a rustic look but you could use matte or gloss paint too.

Again, this was from the pound shop

This was the finished result once it was sprayed

once it was dry I wrapped it with jute string. This was also from the pound shop.

I started by putting a small touch of glue from the glue gun straight onto the pot and then place the start point of the string on top.

I then wrapped the string round and used a small piece of glue every few centimetres to hold it in place at the bottom

Once I had wrapped it round a couple of times I stopped using any glue and just kept wrapping it keeping it tight.

At the end I placed a small piece of glue and then pushed the string on top to hold it in place.

And that was it! You could wrap around more times of you wanted a heavier look.

I think this would look great on any plant pot and I want to try on picture frames too
