Upcycle Those Old Sconce Lights Into Planters!

I love a cute planter, but do not like paying full price for them! I grabbed two sconce lights for $1 each at a thrift store, and got the planters of my dreams for a fraction of retail price!

These light covers are always at my local thrift store. I’ve always just passed by them, but I needed some cute planters for my guest room and decided to upcycle these for what I needed. All you need is a little bit of paint!

First, I added base coats using acrylic paint. After the base coat dried, I added a fun pattern.

(Note: These are only for indoor use and have faux plants, so I didn’t have to worry about making them water resistant).

Then, I added some cardboard (hello, old Amazon boxes!) to the bottom to plug the hole.

(Again, these are for indoor and faux plant use, so if you’re wanting to make these for real plants and outdoor use, you’d need more durable materials).

And viola! I added real dirt (did you know it makes your faux plants look more realistic?!) and some faux plants to top these off. All in all, these took me less than an hour to make and I love them! Not too bad for a $2 project, right? Would you try this?

Any ideas on a bottom to make it waterproof for outdoor / living plants?
