Upcycle a Thrift Store Lamp With Rick Rack
I always have a few sad little lamps hanging around my house, don’t you? This one used to be purple, but a quick coat of flat black spray paint and a new shade trimmed out with a variety of Rick Rack to match makes a world of difference. From a kid’s room to an upcycled farmhouse chic lamp, in just a few hours!
Create a Chic Farmhouse Style Lamp in just Minutes!
Here’s what you will need to Upcycle a Farmhouse Lamp:
- Jumbo Rick Rack Trim – Black
- Large Rick Rack Trim – Black
- Mini Rick Rack Trim – Black
- Candlestick Style Lamp Base
- Round Lampshade
- Flat Black Spray Paint – Design Master Color Tool Spray Paint
- Painters Tape
- Scissors – I love my Fiskars!
- Glue Gun and Glue Sticks – hot glue
Here’s how to create an Upcycled Farmhouse Chic Lamp with Ric-Rac:
Step One
Mask off the cord and socket of the lamp with painter’s tape, then in a well-ventilated area (or outside) spray paint the lamp base flat black. Apply several light coats to get the best coverage and let dry completely. Once dry, remove the painter’s tape.
Step Two
Starting at the lampshade seam, apply the Large Rick Rack to the circumference with hot glue. Take your time and apply small amounts of hot glue, so the finished product looks neat and the glue does not show. Trim the end of Rick Rack with scissors and then seal edges with hot glue, to prevent fraying.
Step Three
Repeat step two with one row of Jumbo Rick Rack, two rows of Mini Rick Rack, and a final row of Large Rick Rack. I love the pattern and texture that the three different sizes of Rick Rack give to this project.
