Update a Bread Box

I love bread boxes and not just to store your bread and buns out of sight but for hiding mail or vitamins or anything else that gets tossed on a counter and needs handy but hidden. The down side is most are boring old worn wood.

Take for example this one, it has fabulous shaker / mission styling but is just old and tired.

I chose a gorgeous teal colored chalk paint to jazz it up. It took 2 coats to cover well then I distressed the edges to keep it authentic looking. Chalk paint needs sealing, an important factor so I sealed all with clear wax as well as adding dark wax to give dimension and brings the details out.

Before any project gets painted though it gets a good scrub and seeing the inside is in great shape it was just given a wipe of hemp oil to nourish the wood.

The original hardware was removed and scrubbed well and given new life with a few coats of oil rubbed bronze spray paint. The fresh new look sets off the teal to perfection.

Here is another i recently did as well with a fun turquoise color and new mercury glass knobs. This beauty has not only the bread box area but an additional storage area on top too.
