Use some paint to update a flea market print and give it a more vintage look

My flea market find

I’d wanted a vintage print for above my bed but couldn’t find anything I loved that wasn’t expensive. I found this piece for $5 and decided to use some paint to change the look of the matting and framing.

(note this is a reproduction print, not an original)

Chalk paint

I like chalk paint for the coverage and ease of use. This is the paint I got from Hobby Lobby

Spray paint for the frame

I used this metallic spray paint for the frame to give it a more subtle

vintage look.

Painting the frame

Using light, sweeping coats, I painted the worn out wood frame a nice matte gold.

Updating the matting

Using the chalk paint and a foam

brush, I carefully painted the frame matting. It is important to use light coats as you don’t want to wet the matting too much that it warps or wrinkles.

I hung mine behind another vintage frame I had for a more artistic look. I love how it turned out and can’t beat the price!
