Vintage Tabletop Radio Light Box

I have a weakness for old radios or more specifically the cases & cabinets they came in ~ big, small, wood, Bakelite…doesn’t matter I love them all!
I bought this old tabletop radio (minus the radio) for $3 a while back, my first thought was that it would make a great birdhouse but the more I thought about it the more I was sure it wouldn’t last long outside in the elements so I decided to go with plan B
I cleaned up the wood and applied a coat of Restor-A-Finish to feed the wood, cover small scratches & even out the color ~ much better!
Not really sure why the inside was painted such a pretty shade of institutional green but I gave it a coat of white paint to lighten it up and make the light reflect better ~ I made a back for it out of a piece of tag board painted brown to match & attached with sticky back Velcro. I covered the fancy front opening (from the inside) with a creamy gold sheet of vellum paper and added a puck style led light to light it up ~
Love the soft glow when it's lit up!
I think it looks equally great lit & unlit sitting up on the shelf alongside my old clocks :)

Loie Adams on Feb 15, 2015I have one of those speakers too. It came to me along with original RCA Coffin radio..it's all metal and stands on slim metal legs about waist high. I lost the top on the way home one day so I made it into a lamp, winding small lights among the orig. tubs and rewired the speaker. It's so cute!! I''ve also seen these speakers made into doll houses. A wooden Cathedral speaker case went to N.Y. to become a little diorama for Harry Potter.
