If you have a drummer in your life you've probably got some broken drumsticks laying around. If they are anything like my son, you have a lot of them. Don't throw away those broken sticks. Turn them into something your favorite drummer can proudly display in their music room.
While I took the better part of a day to complete this, a good portion of that time was spent deciding on placement of things and waiting for things to dry.
I started with a plain unfinished piece of wood
Stained it with black tea and ironed vinegar.
Sanded the edges and corners just to round it out a little.
I printed out some sheet music from a few of his favorite songs and tea stained them just so they wouldn't be bright white. Then decided on placement of the pages.
I used Mod Podge matte to adhere them to the wood. Once all the pages dried I put a thin coat of the matte Mod Podge over the whole thing.
Deciding on the placement of the drumstick pieces was the hardest part for me. (My brain doesn't do 'random' very well)
When I finally came up with a pattern (yes I said pattern) that I liked I used E6000 to glue them all down. I also picked up several of the small splintered pieces from the floor under his drum set to throw into the mix.
After letting the glue dry for some time I applied 3 coats of Mod Podge matte acrylic sealer to the whole thing.
I added his initial just to give it a little more personalization.
I like that the bigger pieces and the small splinters make the whole thing 3D.

Thank you! He hasn't seen it yet. We are celebrating his birthday on Saturday, I will give it to him then. I'm dying to give it to him though. :)
