Spring has been sprung. I feel bad for the rest of the country who are battling rain and cold weather. This week we will be in the 90's. Tulips are one of my favorite flowers, white ones are my favorite. I decided to make my own. The bright tulips colors will brighten any room. Here I go again using my scrap wood and chair spindles. Did I say I love spindles they have so much character.
What you'll need to make these tulips:
wood 2" thick (enough for shape of tulip) mine is 6"x6"
a wood spindle 8"
sharpie (draw)
wood 2x4  (base block 2x2")
wood 1" thick  (base 4"x4")
drill
jig saw
screws
scissors

Step one draw out the shape of the tulip and trace it on your board that is 2" thick. You'll need it that thick to drill a hole at the bottom to insert the spindle. Then cut that out with a jig saw. Next I wanted it to look like it was shiplap so I had my boyfriend saw a line on each side of the petals or both sides as these will be finished on both sides.
I then used stain and wiped it in the lines and on the edges and let that dry. Then I painted over it with my colors. This makes it appear distressed. I wanted my tulips in an assortment of colors, so I painted each one a different spring color. After that was achieved, at the bottom of each tulip I drilled a hole the same size of my spindle. This is to make sure you have super tight fit. I then inserted the spindle into the tulip.
Next I needed to make a base to hold up my tulips. I stained all the wood before putting it together. I used a 4"x1"x4" platform and then put a block of wood that is 2"x2"x2" on top, I attached it using screws as you'll see in the next picture. After that was done I measured my spindle and drilled a hole in the center of by block
These are the 2 screws to attach my 2x2x2" block.
Here they are all put together. I just needed to add one final touch, a  green wired ribbon to make it like foliage.
My tulips are done and spring is in the air here in Arizona. What do you think? I love the way they came out each one is a little different being hand cut which makes each one special.
My favorite the white tulip! What's your favorite color flower? Hope you find this inspiring and make some. These would also make a great mothers day gift.
