Wooden Dowel Vase

This quick and easy DIY dowel vase is a great place for beginners to start!

I used half inch dowels for this project and started by cutting them to size. I decided to cut them at a 45 degree angle for a more polished and custom look. (I cut them about 3/4 of an inch taller than my actual vase so they would completely cover the glass.)

I used a nine inch cylindrical vase that I had just sitting in the cupboard. I started by only cutting a couple of dowels and holding them on the vase to make sure I was happy with the height and angle.

Next, I cut more of my long dowels to size using my miter saw and then took the leftover pieces that also had a 45 degree angle and cut those to size using a radial arm saw.

I'm not a huge crafter and don't use hot glue too often but I thought that it would work best for this project. I started by applying hot glue to my dowel and sticking it on but quickly found that it was much easier to apply the hot glue directly onto the vase and then press the dowel on. You have to work fairly quickly and apply glue just for one dowel at a time since hot glue dries very quickly!

After the first few dowels I got into a nice rhythm and had the vase covered in no time! I'll admit that the first couple had some tiny gaps but the rest I was able to glue up nice and tight!

I'm really happy with how this vase turned out. I love the look of the raw wood so I decided to leave it raw for now. I will most likely add a clear coat at some point. You could also use your favorite spray paint for a pop of color! I hope you enjoyed this project and thanks for following along!
