Upcycling A Serving Tray

I found a serving tray at the thrift store and I couldn't wait to bring it home and give it new life! This little tray is so handy for so many different things and I can't wait to show you how it turned out.
Here is the original serving tray.
I first pulled the back off of the tray. I purchased a yard of fabric at Walmart. I laid it out, measured the back of the tray on it and cut the fabric to size.
I painted the tray with Folk Art Home Decor Texture Chalk in the color Dovetail
Since the glass didn't come off of the tray I added some painters tape to protect the glass while I finished painting the tray.
I placed my Plaid Folk Art Holiday "Give Thanks" Stencil onto my fabric. I used painters tape to hold it in place. I used the same paint as I painted the tray. I loaded my Plaid stencil brush with paint, and then dabbed it onto a paper plate to get off the excess. I then pounced the stencil brush up and down onto the stencil and fabric until I painted the entire stencil surface.
I peeled off the stencil and let the fabric dry completely.
Once everything was dry, I placed the stenciled fabric onto the base of the tray.
I put the tray back together.
My tray was complete and ready for use.
This tray is great for anywhere inside for serving things on, holding remotes, etc.
It's also great for serving outside as well as wonderful for picnics.
We were celebrating our 21st anniversary and it came in so handy.
