Who loves to repurpose, recycle, reuse & reduce? I was at the Habitat store the other day while in DesMoines and as always, I find fun treasures. Amongst the pile of doors and cabinets were some small to medium sized cabinet doors and one in particular stood out. Nothing flashy about it, I just loved the size and it was $1. Hence my easy $1 cabinet door DIY that I’m sharing with you today.

Final look of my $1 project

Seriously, again…nothing totally outstanding about this cabinet door other than I loved the small size, the price and the grooves in the wood. Also, I love cabinet doors because you can do so much with them. In the past I have done several projects with cabinet doors and you can always find some for a steal at the Habitat store. They always seem to have quite a stash of ’em!

plain little cabinet door
Basic mini cabinet door that had white paint, missing hardware

There is literally very minimal prep work for this mini door. The door was basically like this --the color and the original look stayed the same.

Cleaning & sanding

I did some cleaning, filling and sanding the original holes that were in it from the previous hardware (which also happened to be off center).

I sanded around the edges and throughout just to give it some rustic appeal. I didn’t do any painting as it had a white finish and was in great shape other than the original hardware holes.

Drilling new holes for hardware

After applying a vinyl “HOME” lettering which I made with my Cricut, it was on to attaching a bronze rubbed finish drawer pull, which I also snatched at the same store for $1. I screwed a small hanger on the back and that was it!

easy peasy

This is the easiest DIY you will probably find. Takes little to know effort or knowledge of crafting to do.

Outcome of my little project

When it was all said and done, not bad for a piece of wall art that cost $2 to make, right? And it was done in less than an hour.

Hanging in our foyer

I tied a simple grosgrain ribbon bow and attached a large iron key to hang from the drawer pull. It's displayed by my old house pictures in the foyer.

Final finished look

Simple and sweet. Just how I like most things. Isn’t this the cutest and super easy cabinet door DIY? Took very little effort and creativity to repurpose this adorable cabinet door.

less than an hour and $2 to make

It took a few minutes to do and looks fabulous in this old house! $1 for the door and $1 for the hardware pull.

Go snatch you a small cabinet door to repurpose! Now on to more projects after I hit the Habitat store again!
