So what is acrylic paint pouring?

Well, it’s a painting technique to create works of art by pouring acrylic paint onto a canvas.

Pretty simple, right? It might even be easier than  painting walls and ceilings, and trim!

So let's see how exactly we can get cool results pouring acrylic paint onto a piece of canvas.

Start small, work your way up to larger pieces.

What you'll need:

  • 6 Disposable cups
  • 5 Disposable spoons or stir sticks
  • Pan or plastic drop cloths
  • 1 Canvas - 6"x8"
  • 4 Tablespoons Acrylic paint use 4 complementary colors
  • 4 Tablespoons Paint pouring medium
  • 2 Pinches of Gold glitter

Instructions:

Step 1

Place two cups upside down in a pan or on a plastic drop cloth.

Lay canvas on top of the cups as seen in the photograph.

Step 2

Combine the paint and pour medium in separate cups by color, mix them well.

Use approximately 1 tablespoon of paint and one tablespoon of pouring medium.

Step 3

Pour the paint onto canvas one color at a time.

Pour each color next to the one before it.

Repeat until you've used all the paint from your cups.

Note, you may not cover the entire canvas, but that's okay. The next step will have you getting full coverage.

Step 4

Now comes the fun part, tilting the canvas.

Lift an edge of the canvas to tilt it left, tilt it right, forwards and backwards and all-around to move the paint.

The paint should drift together and make cool designs.

Depending on how you tilt the canvas, you can get all sorts of fun wavey designs.

Make sure to get the paint dripped over the edges for a complete and uniform look.

See, it's a little messy, but awfully fun, too!

Step 5

Now all that is left to do is add a pinch of glitter to give the piece some depth.

This step of course is completely optional. You can choose to leave the glitter out of your workpiece, but we like the look of it on this one.

Step 6

The final step is to just let it dry before displaying it in your home.

You'll need to let it dry for up to 48 hours.

After all, the paint is quite thick and does contain the pouring medium.

Just let it do its thing, and then you're ready to enjoy it!
