We moved into a new apartment just a few weeks ago. And though, thankfully, we unpacked right away and felt at home pretty quickly, we still have a list of projects we'd like to get to in order for this apartment to really feel like home.

One of our favorite features of our new space is a small room, off the balconey that we're using as a music room/ study. We put our piano in there and we wanted to give it a fun, vintage feel.

And so we set off on a quest for old records. My coworker came to the rescue and supplied me with an impressive collection.

The first obstacle that we faced was where and how to arrange them on the wall. After much deliberation, we opted for the "less is more" feel to make an accent wall next to the piano instead of a border around the perimeter of the entire room.

Next we had to choose how to hang the records on the wall. I opened this question up to the Hometalk community by asking a question on the awesome DIY forum and got some great advice. I opted to use thin nails to rest the holes in the center of the records on.

I, as it turns out am a huge klutz! I kept on banging my own fingers with the hammer. Until I learned this nifty, lifesaving trick.

Take a small piece of cardboard ( mine came from the top of a box of lasagna noodles) and cut a small slit in the side. Stick the nail into that slit, make sure that you feel that its securely in place in the piece of cardboard.

Then hold the cardboard up against the wall, instead of the nail and slowly and steadily band the nail into the wall. I had to learn a real lesson in patience- if I tried to bang it in too quickly, it would end up at an angle and shed plaster from the wall. the slower, the better.

And voila! I'm no longer intimidated by banging nails into the walls and we have a cute, inviting accent wall for our music room!!

    I congratulate you guys!

You have a very cool music corner. You can see that you are doing everything with taste. I hope there will always be music in this apartment! I love music and often record myself in the studio for a more professional performance. So the other day, I thought I should equip myself with a similar space. Only to add a guitar and a microphone. I buy the equipment here at asmrmicrophones.com (not advertising, just a recommendation).

I need a room with excellent acoustic treatment to record instruments or vocals. Again, the goal is to capture the recorded sound as accurately as possible. In my case, you will also need reliable microphone cables, microphone stands, different microphone options, and extra channels to record multiple sound sources simultaneously.
