How to do a simple panel wall

When buying the panelling strips from your local hardware store make sure you select ones that are free from knots and that are straight. I did find after I put them up that one length had a slightly thicker profile so be careful of that!

Using a mitre saw makes it much easier to get neat 45 degree cuts. But a smile mitre block will do the job as well

For this design I used a middle rail and made sure to get it the height that I needed. Remember to take this into account for the size of the squares you want to. This helps reduce waste and having small off cuts of the wood that you can’t use

I used an air nailer for ease but a tube of No nails works just as well. Take your time ensuring spacing and levelness is correct before moving on to the next one

Keep going until all of your panels have been done. Cutting out for any power outlets you might have

Finally ensure you prime the wood with a couple of coats before you do your final wall colour

Suggested materials:
  • Wood panel strips   (Hardware store)
  • Primer   (Hardware store)

I have alsways wanted to do this. I would have a hard time with the math to make sure everything was even, and also my walls never seem to be straight. A lot of caulk would have to be used. Any suggestions??
