Book Clock

All great projects are usually someone else's idea...at least that's how it is for me. I am a type A personality and rarely have wildly, creative ideas. I can take someone else's great creative idea and morph it into something of my own, but those ideas do not come to me naturally. This project was no exception...well, the exception was I didn't change one single thing about it. I liked it just the way it was.

One morning a few weeks ago, the hubster was working from home and caught sight of something pretty cool on Hallmark's Home and Family show. He told me about it but I had already missed the segment. Soooo, I looked it up online and decided I could do it without the hubster's help. A few days later, I gathered my supplies, asked begged the hubster to let me use a power tool and made this neat little clock.

We have tons, and I mean tons, of books around our home, so I grabbed one of those, removed the sleeve and grabbed the clock kit I had previously purchased at Hobby Lobby. NOTE: no humans, animals or works of literature were harmed in the making of this project!

I laid out my pieces to determine where on the book cover I wanted to place the clock, marked my spot and drilled a hole. You can see additional details on my blog post.

After drilling through the cover, I screwed the clock mechanism through the inside of the cover, marked where I needed to cut through my pages so that it would fit and using an Xacto knife, began cutting a hole in the pages.

I had to occasionally close the book to determine how deep into the book I needed to cut. I cleaned up some of the edges with scissors as I went along. Once the book would close without looking clumpy, I attached the hands of the clock.

After inserting a battery, I set the time and it was good to go.

Don't you just love it?! It was such a neat idea that I just couldn't resist making one or two more!
