Craft Paper Dispenser With Scrap Wood

I like to plan my weekly meals and loved the look of craft paper dispensers but they can be pricey. I decided I could build my own only using scraps and odds and ends I had in my workshop.

I ordered my craft paper roll off of Amazon and once it arrived, I dug through my scrap pile to find a piece that fit the depth of the roll. Once I had a piece wide enough I found a doweling that would fit in the center (I ended up using an old broom handle) and a 1x2 that would allow me to attach the finished project to the wall.

I cut them all to the length of the craft paper roll, which was 12.5”

I gave them all a light sand to smooth the rough edges. Then glued the scraps together using wood glue and secured them with finishing nails.

I attached “L” brackets to the center of my top piece.

I drilled small holes into the ends of my doweling so I could easily attach it to the “L” bracket with screws.

For the bottom where my craft paper will be secured to the wall, I cut two more scraps to the right length – leaving a quarter inch on either side for spacers so the craft paper will slide in.

I used bolts for spacers and attached the two pieced with crews.

I painted the whole thing black then used screws to securely attach the top piece to the wall and used Command Adhesive Strips on the bottom.

I inserted the craft paper onto the doweling and secured it onto the “L” bracket with small screws.

This project definitely requires having a supply of scrap wood and odds and ends but it would also be very easy to purchase everything you need.

I love this project and it helps keep me organized for the week.

You didn't describe the black bar at the bottom of the craft paper. I'm assuming it's to hold the paper still while you're writing, and to keep the paper from curling? But what did you make it from?

I did something similar with antique ice hooks, a dowel and a paper towel roll. I used cup hooks to hold it to the underside of a kitchen cabinet. It never fails to get comments, as I'm sure your project does.

I like that you painted the hardware to match the finished project. So many - too many! - projects I see here skip that step, when all they need is to spray some paint in a disposable paper cup and to touch up with a Q-tip cotton swab. Kudos!

How do you tear it off. Most dispensers have a bar to do so.

Nice job!!! Nice to use your brain- some items for crafters are just too pricey- we have to adjust where we can. Love it This can be used for many other things also!!
