DIY Dowel Decor: Modern Printables Frames

With just a few supplies, you can create completely custom frames for printables!

This project is so super easy and you can crank them out in a flash.

This project is also a great way to use up leftover dowel scraps if you've got them laying around too.

Start by arranging and rearranging your dowel pieces on a piece of acrylic to find a design arrangement that you like. Make sure you have some larger pieces covering the area you plan to have the picture hanging hardware, like shown above.

Next, peel some of the protective plastic on the acrylic sheet and glue your dowels on.

I had a spot of trouble with various glues but in the end, they all worked in some capacity. I'd recommend Fuze It Perfect Glue. Though it does have a long dry time, it seems to be the most secure.

Once everything has dried, glue your hanging hardware to the backside. See, hidden by the dowels!

Next, print out your artwork and trim it as necessary. Really this is just a gratuitous Finn picture.

And another gratuitous Finn picture. But! Come by the blog post because I show you how to make your own DIY photo corners too! Two DIY tutorials in one post!

Lastly, tape the photo corners to the backside of your art then using double stick tape, tape the artwork to the acrylic sheet.

And voila! Super cute, super easy, super fast, super custom -- this project checks all the boxes.

The acrylic of course let's your wall treatment or color come through so it acts as a free mat board for your frames too.

Fun, right?!
