DIY Farmhouse Kitchen Sign

A quick and simple DIY farmhouse-style sign to hang in your kitchen (or anywhere, really). I always see these signs on Fixer Upper and in magazines and they look so gorgeous, but they're pricey! It's SO easy to make, and it's incredibly affordable too. You can see the full blog post here!
We started off with a plain wood board that we cut to the length of the window we were hanging it over. I first stained the board a dark brown, then painted over it. Once it was painted, I went back in and sanded the entire board, focusing specifically on the edges and corners, to give it a weathered, distressed look.
To write the word, I created a Word document sized so that each letter took up approximately 1 full page. I printed them with the letters flipped backwards (see the blog post for the full details on how to do that if you don't know how), then I laid the papers face-down on the board and used the lid of a Sharpie to trace around the letters.
Once you lift the paper up, it leaves a nice, clean outline for you to go back and fill in the letters! I used a paint pen to fill mine in, you could also use a Sharpie or a small paintbrush with paint.
We hung the finished product with a french cleat (here's an affiliate link that shows you what that looks like), and it fits PERFECTLY in the space!
