DIY Farmhouse Sign Upcycle

4 Materials
Ever pick up something at the thrift store without a clue as to what you're going to do with it? Happens to me frequently. Such was the case when I picked up this piece of wall art at Goodwill.
I didn't particularly want the artwork per se, but I just couldn't pass it up for $2.99! After it sat in my basement for many months I finally had an epiphany. Why not use it as the "bones" for a sign I DID want?
So I gathered up my stencils along with some chalky white paint and some acrylic black paint.
After drawing myself a template and carefully spacing out the letters in advance, I was ready to paint! First I painted over the original words in black and then I stenciled over that with own words in white.
And voila! It really couldn't have been easier and I'm so pleased that I was able to go from run-of-the-mill stock wall art to a custom farmhouse style sign!
I did leave some of the original sign intact. Stop by the blog (link below) to find out what part I left alone and how it helped to make this sign really pop!
