While living in New Orleans, we were given some old cedar fence planks from my parents. Their neighbors were tearing down an old privacy fence, approximately 20 years old, to clean up their land and eventually sell the property. My parents dropped off the wood planks as a gift to Brian on one of their visits to see us. His excitement and art process started racing as we were both puzzled to what we were going to do with them. Each plank is 6-8 inches wide and about 6 feet long. They were perfectly imperfect and we knew we wanted to do something unique with them. After weeks of staring at the pieces and racking our brains for a brilliant plan, Brian decided to make some beautiful art with them. This project was all him. His design, his idea, his work.
So after staring at these blank pieces of wood and having fishing for bonefish and monster redfish on his brain at the time, my goofy husband saw fish in the wood and this is what he created.
Notice that he used the natural knots in the wood to be the redfish eye, spot on his tail and the crab body. The lines in the wood follow the shape of the fish's lateral lines.
Mr. Redfish now hangs in our hallway.
The smaller, 2 planks he had remaining resembled features of a bonefish. He must have flipped the wood planks over and rotated them for 30-45 minutes before he found the perfect wood grain lines as fish lateral lines and knots for eyes.
Mr. Bonefish now lives at a friend's house in Mississippi as the center piece of their outdoor kitchen.

I love that people can look at some totally random object and have a great vision for something totally unique and beautiful. I've always seen things through a different lens than most people. Really love this and would be proud to hang it in my home anytime! Kudos
