I made a farmhouse style old barn wood sign. I stenciled in the word geranium but you can write whatever you like on it. It was super easy and you can get totally creative with this!

Step 1- Determine your supplies.

I wasn’t sure which paint color I would use so I grabbed two. I decided on the white but I'm sure other colors would look good on this too.

Step2- select your wood

I chose a piece of old barn wood. I had to be sure it wasn’t too warped. You may have to cut your wood depending on how big you want your sign to be.

Mine is 4 foot long.

Step 3-sand the wood

I sanded the wood to get it a bit smoother. I sanded only one side since only one side would be visible so I didn't bother sanding the other side.

Step 4 Paint the wood

I painted the wood white on one side and the edges.

Step 5- Stencil the letters

I painted the letters using a homemade stencil. I painted the word geranium. It dried very fast.

Finished

Once the paint was dry the sign was finished and ready to go!

Step 6

Style your sign however you want!

Suggested materials:
  • Chalk paint for the sign and color desired   (Home Depot or Any hardware store)
  • A piece of wood   (Craig’s list)
  • Paint for the letters- I used a black chalk paint   (Any hardware store)
