DIY Song Lyrics Sign - No Sign Painting Skills Required

5 Materials
I wanted to give my nephew and his new wife a special keepsake from their wedding, so I decided to make them this sign featuring the lyrics to the song from their first dance!
Using Canva create a pdf image of the song lyrics of your choice. Canva is an easy platform to design and you can choose custom sizes. Take the pdf file to your local print shop that does engineering prints to have it printed.
I chose 24" by 36". I purchased an edge glued pine board the exact same size, and using spray adhesive, mount the engineering print to the board. Being careful to spray all the edges and smoothing out print to avoid any wrinkles or bubbles.
Allow it to dry completely over night. We used a door stop trim to make a frame. I painted the frame in grey and used liming wax to give it an aged patina. The corners were cut at 45 degrees before I painted them.
We then used a wee bit of carpenters glue on each trim piece to attach it to the edges of the print before using a brad nailer to fasten it securely to the pine board. We did make sure to dry fit the frame one last time before securing it with the glue and the nails!
We then fastened "alligator" hooks on the back evenly spaced apart for hanging.

The last step was to seal the print. I wasn't sure I was going to seal it at all, but felt better knowing it had a bit of protection. I ruled out any varathane type sealants for fear it would damage the print. I ended up using the liming wax buffed on in a light coat over the entire print. I love how it added a tiny bit of fading to some of the letters, depending on the pressure I applied. It now has a super soft thin layer of protection!
