I've been itching for some new wall decor, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money. That lead me this simple, free DIY art, made with - you read that right - a potato! You can do this with any colors you want, and if you're feeling especially adventurous, you can even change up the stamp shape.

What you'll need:

A canvas (printer paper, contact paper, fabric, anything!)

Paint

Potato

Step 1: Cut potato

I cut my potato lengthwise and then again (because I wanted the flat bottom), but you can cut it however you want. I think circles would be nice too.

Step 2: Mix paint

For my potato art I used gray and blue paint, but you can use however many colors you want.

I wanted some variation in each stamp, so I put a bit of each color on a paper plate and mixed them randomly with the potato stamp as I went.

Step 3: Stamp

Stamp the potato firmly on the paper. I dipped the stamp back in the paint every one or two applications, which also helped achieve some variation in the print.

I'm really happy with how it came out. I mean really, I don't think you can go wrong with $0 wall art?! I think I'm going to try to make a new frame for this too- so stay tuned for that!

I did this with my kids. Couldn't afford store bought stamps. LOL

I used this same application with a potato on my sister in laws kitchen wall years ago. She had a cow themed kitchen and I 'painted' a border about half way up the wall. It was gorgeous and quite the conversation attraction!
