Easy Shag Rug Wall Hanging
I am so excited to share my new project with you. I've had this blue shag rug for years and constantly moved it around my house. I washed it recently and shook it after pulling it out of the dryer. I was looking at it and realized it would make a really cool wall hanging, so I went to work. It would definitely need more color, but I knew It was the perfect base for my next diy home décor project.
This is the rug I started with it. It's 3'x4' and you can find these rugs pretty much anywhere.
Decide what colors you want to add to your wall hanging. I used a few different kinds of yarn because I wanted different textures.
Start making tassels... lots and lots of tassels.
Now it's time to add the tassels to the wall hanging. Find a piece of fabric on the rug to tie the tassel onto. Be sure to tie a double knot so the tassel doesn't fall off later.
I decided to make some pom poms and add them to the wall hanging the same way, by tying them with a double knot.
I didn't have a plan when it came to how I added these, but ended up adding my tassels and poms in random groups. You can make a pattern on yours or plan out a design.
Continue adding your tassels and pom poms until you are happy with the final look.
I LOVE how this turned out! It's the perfect way to add color and texture to your home for fall and you can customize it to match any home décor!
I had everything for this craft at home, but these rugs aren't expensive, so this is definitely an affordable home décor project and great gift idea!
