Easy Upcycled Fabric Art

When we moved into our new rental house we discovered that the owners had left me a few items to upcycle – they’d actually told us to toss out whatever we didn’t want but I, of course, have chosen to refashion it.

First up, this huge vintage framed art print above the fireplace received a total refashionista makeover:

Check out my Easy Upcycled Fabric Art below and transform that tacky charity shop wall decor into colourful creations that are just your style!

That tacky 80’s art print was massive, heavy and had a frame in perfect condition!

Deconstructing the frame was a bit of a chore but I managed to carefully pull out all of nails and staples holding it together without breaking anything, whew!

I’d had that fantastic pink paint in my stash for ages and knew it was perfect for this project so I gave the frame a thorough sanding with medium grit paper…

then sprayed on a few coats of that perfect pink!

While the paint dried I raided my scrappy fabric stash for a few colourful pieces to create some fab new art for the frame.

I measured the original poster board then cut the fabric to the correct size + seam allowance and stitched it all together.

Once the fabric was stitched and ready I applied a layer of glue to the original poster board…

and carefully smoothed the fabric down on top of it.

Then I wrapped and stuck the excess fabric around the back of the board.

Once the paint was dry on the frame I went ahead and reassembled my fancy new art!

How gorgeous is that?!

I love simple yet crazy dramatic transformations!

I'm a traditionalist and think the pink is over the top. There are tons of ways to have utilized the re-make without the "bubble gum" effect. However, if it fits the rest of your decor go with it.
