Entryway Shelf Transformation

I adapted this wooden shelf to hang in our entryway just by adding some coat hooks!

Find a shelf

Years ago I found this cute little shelf in an antique store; I remember being so indecisive about whether to buy it or not. It then sat for ages waiting for me to do something with it and I finally decided to paint it and turn it into a coat rack for our entryway.

The surface was clean and ready to paint and I applied two coats of Annie Sloan chalk paint in Old Ochre.

I then applied a coat of clear wax to seal using a sponge and buffed with a lint free cloth.

I lightly distressed with sandpaper on the edges and corners of the piece. I then applied another coat of wax to seal and buffed well.

Attach coat hooks

I found these coat hooks on eBay to attach to the bottom of the shelf.

These were placed evenly across the wood and fixed on easily with screws. The shelf was then fixed to the wall.

I love the finished result since we now have a practical piece to store coats and jackets. But also I love that I can decorate the shelf and adapt it throughout the year for seasonal decor! This piece is now a big feature in my home and I’m so glad I went for it when I saw it in the store that day!
