I used underlayment plywood (without wood grain) , attached it to the walls, painted faux knot holes and painted wood grain on it. To finish the project, I used premixed grout and filled in the area between the faux logs.
I cut plywood underlayment in 6" strips (one sheet equals 8 boards).  Then, I attached them to the wall using a small nail gun.  The plywood didn't have wood grain or knot holes on it, so I used a potato to make a knot hole stamp.  I used golden oak and classic oak stain for the right color of these.  I stamped the knot holes at random areas all over the plywood planks.
I used golden oak stain and a 3/4" artist brush and painted wood grain all over the planks.  The top two in this picture do not have the wood grain on them yet.
This is what the wood grain looked like.
This is a wall that's completed with 2"s gaps between each board.
This is a very close view of the wood grain I painted.
After finishing the wood grain, I painted water based polyurethane all over the walls.  I bought premixed grout (bone color) and used a putty knife and filled in the 2" gap between the logs.  After the grout dried, I painted a final coat of poly to seal everything.
The finished project.
Another view of the finished project.
Now, I have the cozy cabin look I have always wanted.
