Filling Large Walls

Hometalk recently asked for ways to fill large spaces. I have three examples.

This the outside of our home. We are going to add stone over the ugly stucco. But on the large area on the front, I did a ceramic mosaic of a sun.

Closer look.

Next wall is in our reading room in the basement. The wall is finished with beautiful wood. I hung several of my paintings and we are adding shelves that hold my husband's stamp collection.

Just a closer look

This is the stairwell. Hard to decorate. I didn't want a traditional photo gallery.

I painted a primitive tree and hung family photos in mini frames.

Looking down from the top. The frames are on removable hangers.

Close up.

Some of these leaves are family thumbprints. One day I will have to repaint this wall and I will redo the tree. It will be a great excuse to have everyone come visit and redo their prints. But I have them on little cards too so I can keep them forever.
Suggested materials:
  • Broken thrift store dishes and a bucket of tile adhesive for the sun. Shelves from Lowes for the wall. And craft pain for the family tree along with mini frames. .

This is a very innovative idea. I bought a lovely picture frame to create a family collage with all our immediate family and put names on each one for my Mom after she suffered a head injury and lost the ability to recognize and remember people. It was much later that we learned that often he'd injury patients lose the ability to recognize faces.. She loved it and would oftn look at it and try to remember the people pictured there.

I love the tree you created on your stairway wall. This is such a great way to hang photos of all your loved ones. Also a great way to remember all those family members that have passed. Beautiful job.
