Germ Monster Art

I’ve been trying to occupy our homeschool time at home with a variety of art and crafting ideas. This was a cheap, easy and fun project to create that my preschooler absolutely loved! I was also able to incorporate a bit of learning about germs and how they spread.

Gather Materials

I had all these already on hand, which is my kind of art project! You will need a piece of paper or cardstock, a paintbrush, straw and paint colors of your choice. You can use any kind of paint (I used Tempera and Acrylic which I stock at home from Dollar Tree).

Mix Paints

Mix some water in with your paints. I would recommend a tablespoon per squirt. We found that the runnier the paint mixture was, the better for spreading later on.

Drop a Glob!

Drop a big puddle of paint onto your paper.

Create the Monsters!

Use the straw to blow air onto the paint puddles and spread out the “germs”. My toddler had so much fun blowing the paint in different directions! This was a great opportunity to explain to her how quickly germs can move and spread out.

Add Eyeballs

Once your Germ Monsters are dry, glue on google eyes to help them really come to life! These are another great craft supply I stock up on at Dollar Tree.

Display Your Creation!

Overall, this was a great project my daughter really loved! It occupied her for quite a while and she even asked to make another page of Germ Monsters!
