Today I'd love to share with you how I add wood frames to my DIY signs. I feel like the frame is the crown on anything you make! It's added a color contrast, character and a touch of charm. The framed signed are also HUGE right now, so you can save yourself a few dollars purchasing something at the store and learn how to make one yourself saving yourself money in the process, and that's half the reason we all DIY anyway right? Follow along to see how easy it is.
The First thing we do is take our completed sign and measure from side to side. We're going to be added the top and bottom frame pieces first.
Next you will take your stained wood and cut pieces to fit the top and bottom. I use Pine common board 1x2's. These have been stained with dark walnut.
Once cut, I place my boards along the top and bottom, then I measure that new total length. Then I cut my two sides pieces this length.
Perfect fit! Remember to measure twice and cut once!!
The final step is to nail your frames onto your board. I place them flush againt the back of my board and then nail in on all corners.
That's it! Does the frame just add so much to the piece? It's pretty beautiful but once that frame is on I just feel like it pops so much more. Framing can seem really intimidating but I promise if I can do it, you can do it!!
