First draw your mason jar with pencil, lightly. If you have trouble drawing, draw it out and hang it upside down with a magnet on your fridge. Walk away for a while and when you look at it for a second time you can normally see what needs fixed. Another way to do it is to take a picture of it and upload it onto your computer. Trace it off your computer screen and use the paper as a guide. if you are still unsure, hang it upside down.

Start by painting the base color. The base color will be the main color of your jar. Do not worry about dark and light areas at this point. If you start to add dark areas while the paper is still wet, it could end up making your paper look muddy. If you wish to speed the process, use a hair dryer to dry the first layer.

Start adding in detail. Be sure to pay close attention to the colors in your jar. We know that the jar is blue but some of the colors, due to shadows and lighting, will take on gray, dark blue, black, green (from the stems). I place my jar on a white sheet of paper and also put a white sheet of paper behind it.

Paint your stems in (if you are using flowers) and finish adding the detail allowing your paper to dry in between colors. If you mess up, add a little clean water and blot the area with a towel. Never rub watercolor paper... it will get fuzzy! Visit this link to see a video.
