Make a Shell Monogram!

An easy to make monogram using any letter you like and miniture sea shells. This is a simple decor project that would look great in a Florida-room, or in a beach-themed living room, family room, or bedroom.

This project used hot glue. You can use marine goop instead. Marine goop is especially advisable in very humid or beach-front areas.

Start by printing the letter you want for your monogram on cardstock. I personally used the AR Julian font in Microsoft Word at a size of 500. You should print it in the lightest gray possible. This will save you on ink. Plus you will want a light color as it will show through in places after the shells are glued on. Depending on the letter you use, this may not matter and you can flip it over after it has printed and just use the white side. But this obviously will work for every letter if it ends up backwards.

Cut out your letter from the cardstock and set it aside.

Look for a frame at a thrift store or garage sale to save cash! I found a 10x10" framed mirror at a thrift shop for 75¢. I decided to cover most of the mirror with a 5" wide piece of burlap that was 6.5" long. I tacked the corners down and sides down in a few places with hot glue.

Take your printed letter and flip it over to the white side if you can. If not, then the light gray you printed it in will work.

Start placing shells on the letter like a puzzle, and get an idea of how you will lay them out before you get out the glue. You will want to use miniature shells because they are the easiest size to manipulate into your monogram "puzzle."

Using a glue gun and start gluing the shells down to the letter.

The hot glue will create "glue gun string". You will have to clean all of this up when you are done.

When the monogram is covered with the shells the way you want it to be, hot glue it to the frame.

Display as desired.

This is a fast and easy craft project, perfect if you beach decor, or leftover mini shells from another craft project!

I think if the letter had been painted the background color of the surface (the color of the burlap) it would have looked better. All the white showing takes away from it a bit.
