I love mason jars and think they make the best decor staple! I mostly use them as hanging vases. They are super easy to make and they look really nice..farm house chic. Here are all the different vases I have made.
This one holds three different fresh herbs, and has hooks for drying. We used metal plumbing strips (perforated galvanized steel duct strap, also comes in copper)to anchor the jars to the wood with screws. Then added metal wire to hang. I painted rectangle shaped label boxes with chalkboard paint. Make sure you make your label box big enough because chalk is hard to write with...at least on a curved surface.
Flowers can also be dried on the hooks. I especially love dried hydrangeas. The dried arrangements look almost as pretty as the fresh bouquets do.
I've been meaning to update the labels...ooops.

I like to have fresh rosemary handy in the kitchen and it smellls wonderful!
We even made hanging vases filled with flowers as wedding favors for our wedding last year. It was a casual backyard affair and these looked very romantic dislpayed in the wagon parked by the gate...guests took one on their way out. All my family and friends continue to tell me how much they enjoy the vase...and think of our special day.
