You know how it goes. You update your living space by adding or moving a piece of furniture, and suddenly all your previously hung pictures need to be moved too. While you might be able to easily hang one picture, groupings are a special challenge. Here's how I deal with it.
I want these pictures to be in the center of the space between the doorway and the repositioned curio cabinet.
I removed the pictures and stacked them in the same order so that I could rehang them as they were. Using a level, I placed a strip of painter's tape next to the nails, hooks, etc. still in the wall. Notice how out of line they were. That's what happens when you eyeball it. And then you have to turn the pictures every which way to make them look level. Using the level will eliminate that problem.
Once the painter's tape was level, I removed the nails, hooks, etc., and drew a mark on the painter's tape level with their holes, It's important to reuse the same nails, hooks, etc. so that they hang exactly as before.
Then I used a ruler to make sure that the mark was in the same place on the tape in each of the three locations where I wanted to rehang the pictures. If you want, you can then drive your nail right into the tape when you reposition it.
I then centered the tape on the wall where I wanted to rehang the pictures, making sure that it was completely level once again. Previously, the pictures were a little low, so I placed the tape a few inches higher on the wall.
I pounded the same nails, hooks, etc. in the same order level with the marks on the tape.
And before removing the tape, I rehung the photos to make sure they were exactly in the middle and spaced as before.
Finally, I removed the tape. Perfectly centered, perfectly spaced, and much quicker than starting from scratch.
