I am sure this has been done a few times but we just moved into a new house and we are making it home. I came across these cool shelves online but we are on a limited budget so we made our own!
Here are the parts we used.
We started at our local Home Depot where this sales associate was amazing! He was very helpful. We purchased a 10' pipe and had them cut it into 1' sections and threaded both ends of each piece.
We needed elbows, T's, flanges, and 8" and 12" pipe.
We first attached an elbow to one end of a 1' pipe.
Then we took an 8" pipe and attached that to the other end of the 1' pipe that we had attached the T to.
We then added the flange to the end. We repeated the process until we had the length we wanted. Unfortunately we originally thought we wanted three feet of shelving but once we held it up to the wall we realized we needed it to be smaller. Did I mention our house is somewhat small? :)
This is what it will look like as you are adding pieces.
We weren't sure if we would hit a stud or not so we placed the flange where we wanted it and started to screw in the screw. We didn't hit anything so we marked where we wanted the screws to attach to the wall and then we added anchors to ensure the pipe would stay in place.
We made sure the shelving was level.
Inserted the anchors and then attached the shelving.
Here they are attached. We were originally going to use some ceramic tile for the actual shelves however it just didn't look as we had envisioned. So game change! We had some barnwood and used that instead! Its OK to change your mind right!?
And here it is! I love the way it came out!

Love it! My husband has had plans to do this in front of some brick that we exposed (back of a chimney) in my boys room, for over a year. 😕 Not his fault. He works 70 hours a week and coaches my son's science olympiad team, which doesn't leave much time. But I think I will show this to him to maybe help him get the itch again. I know I could do it, but he wants to, and I don't want to take it away from him. I'm not sure he knew that the pipes could be cut and threaded at the store. That will be helpful! Thanks for posting!
