Happy Monday! Today I'm sharing with you all my open shelving that I made for less than $20. All I used was some lumber, brackets and stain that I had left over. I chose to do open shelving in my master bedroom renovation so that it would bring your eye up and make this wall feel full. It seems no matter what I used to place here, it always seemed too small for the wall.
This is what my bedroom started out as. We had painted it a dark grey when we moved in. I wanted a fresh, white bedroom so I painted all the beadboard and installed the open shelving to help accentuate the tall ceilings.
I had a shelf here before but needed more shelving as well as needed it to be longer to fill the whole area.
These are seriously so easy to build that it probably took me less than 20 minutes to stain and hang them. I'm the type of person who slaps stain on, wipes it off and doesn't wait for the shelves to dry. Yes, my room smelled like stain for a day.
The great thing about open shelving is that you can style and restyle whenever you want. When I get sick of this decor, I'll add some new and move this stuff around to other open shelving in my home. Speaking of open shelving, I have two other tutorials for different styles of shelves here on my blog. Just scroll to the bottom of the linked post and click the links for my other tutorials.
All you need to do is screw the brackets into place using a level as well as securing in studs. Then cut your selected wood to size and screw into top of bracket. So easy and so budget friendly!
