I saw where someone had painted irises by using paw prints from her large dog. I have small dogs but wanted to give it a try. This is a great project to do with older grandchildren, maybe upper elementary or junior high. If they love experimenting with art projects, they will love this activity. Our dog prints were not so profound as a large paw would make. Next time I will borrow a larger dog for this project to make "better" flower forms.

Using the basic design of the dog paws, we dipped one paw in acrylic paint on a paper plate.

For some colors it is fun to mix the colors like flowers you see in nature and also for shading.

When you have a color or colors you prefer, hold the paw firmly on a canvas back. I had these hard backs left over from other projects.

We started with yellow paws firmly placed on the canvas then added some greenery for the bouquet. Everyone can chose their favorite color or make them for a loved one that prefers that color. These make great gifts for teachers, Sunday School teachers, sitters, or extended family. They can be for spring holiday or Easter.

Then more brushes of colors were added to finish the bouquet in the garden. Wild flower appearance could be made by using various colors before the greenery is added.

Pink and purple paw prints were also chosen by some grand children. They can be representative of real flowers or new creations of their own. It is really that simple! I had everything on hand so I did not spend any money, but this can be done for less than $3 per canvas back.
