Has anyone used flooring on walls?

How does it look and hold up

YES!! We did this on a wall that had a fireplace, left space between each board for some depth. Looked great. Also have seen a friend do one wall just as one would do a floor. Same principle -- One word of caution: you might want to consider applying some sort of removable covering -- maybe a wall paper liner -- so when you are ready to change this look, at least you have a simpler way to take it down!!

  • Results are largely dependent on what type of flooring and location of material. Hardwood flooring works fantastic for accent walls. It’s easy to cut and comes in many different woods and sizes. Natural stone tiles will also work great for kitchen counter back splashes or bathroom walls. Just consult your hardware store for what proper adhesive they carry.

As far as how it holds up; this is once again dependent on location of material. Hardwoods hold up great in most all locations. They are made to be walked on so a wall is nothing for them. I would stray away from hardwoods in very humid locations like a bathroom as the humidity can cause warping. Stone tiles look great but also have the chance of cracking if hit by something hard.

Interesting idea! I hadn't thought of using flooring as a wall covering. I suppose you'd have to take the pattern of the flooring into consideration.
