Hi, Christy: Well, it can be messy! Are you planning on putting wallpaper back in this place? If the wallpaper is in good shape, not baggy or peeling, you can put new wallpaper over it. That's what we did in our kitchen. Be sure to dust off the wallpaper (you know those pesky little spider webs in the corners!) and apply the new paper following the directions. It is much easier to do now than "back in the olden days". If you are planning something else in place of the wallpaper, try to lift the edges with a scraper and peel off the old paper. If this doesn't work easily you can spray with warm water (lightly, so it doesn't run down) and let set for a few minutes, testing every so often to see if it will peel. I think you will get a lot of ideas from folks today!

The wall paper is the original wall paper from when the house was built, so you can imagine the design. I'm not quite sure what I want to do in that bathroom yet, it's guest/daughter's....

You need to prick or score the old wallpaper and then spray with wall paper remover. There are lots of recipes that use fabric softener but, bona fide wallpaper stripper remover available at the big box store is your best bet.Any technique used to remove old wallpaper will be messy, regardless of the tech. you use.

Mix warm water with either fabric softener or vinegar in a spray bottle, 50/50 mixture. Pierce the wallpaper so that you can saturate behind the wallpaper, be careful not to damage drywall underneath. This mixture will basically melt the adhesive. Use a plastic scraper to remove. Wipe walls down with soapy water.

I have used steamer, stripper, and other methods but the best one I've found is the water & fabric softener. Bonus is the lovely scent when the job is complete.
